Adoption will grow our family.
Angela
is a survivor of Hodgkin's Disease, we have known there was a very good chance we would not be able to get pregnant due
to chemo and radiation treatments she endured over 10 years ago. We decided not to find out why we were not getting
pregnant because there are SO many children that need a loving home and we want to give that
to a child. Biological or adopted is not an issue for either of us and it seemed silly to spend money on fertility
testing and possibly still come out without a child. It was more practical to put money towards adoption. We had
always heard how expensive it was so we had talked about it but never really researched or acted on it. We really
thought it was just a dream for us - then one day a friend told me of an adoption class being offered at her church.
We went and learned of different options Domestic, International, Agency, Private, Foster Care it was very overwhelming. We
never thought about International until we learned some of the risks and costs involved in Domestic adoption. We explored
several countries and for one reason or another kept being led back to the "Lost Daughters of China"
It is expensive and we were unsure we really could make this happen- but Sean and I have been budgeting, saving, fundraising,
working overtime and more to be able to make this dream come true.
Adoption was not the quick, easy or cheap way to go about having a family; we are learning just how difficult
it is. As we said earlier we have been saving and working hard to make this happen but we would appreciate your prayers
& support. Someone has said Adoption is like having a baby without health insurance-for us it is attorney's
fees, agency fees, home study fee, orphanage fees, travel, immigration etc. Adoptive parents fees come out of pocket. Another
expense is we will spend 2 weeks in China to complete the adoption. Then we will need some time
to bond and get Cassie settled in to a routine once we get back home. As adoptive parents our
companies do not offer any paid leave, which most companies offer to biological parents.
